100km World Championships 2007

Japan finished first and second in the 100km Champioships with Shinichi Watanabe the outright winner in 6:23:21, some 7 minutes ahead of second placed Kenji Nakanishi. Third, fourth and fifth places went to Russia.

In the ladies race, Japan’s Norimi Sakurai set a new womens world record with 7:00:27 well ahead of second place Laurence Fricotteaux of France who finished 7:26:44. Just behind in third place was another Japanese runner, Hiroko Sho in 7:27:12.

British representative Jez Bragg ran well in the Netherlands at this years 100km Championships to finish 18th in 7:03: 12, slightly better than his 7:04:46 performance at the UK Championships earlier this year. Paul Harwood finished in 31st place with 7:23:38 and Matthew Lunas finished in 8:03.

In the Ladies race Adele Salt ran well to finish 11th in 7:54:21.
