The 2007 US 100km championships in Madison, Wisconsin takes place on Saturday April 7th. With no event last year, some of the big ultrarunning names are up for the challenge including Scott Jurek, Greg Crowther, Roy Pirrung and Carolyn Smith, Ann Heaslett and Julie Udchachon among the ladies. Niki Kimball has had to pull out due to illness. American men must run a qualifying time of 7 hours, 20 minutes and for women – 8 hours, 40 minutes.
This is a big opportunity to make it into the National 100 km Team going to Winschoten, Netherlands on September 8, 2007.
In the UK, the National Championships will be held in Edinburgh under the auspices of the Sri Chinmoy Athletics Club at Heriot-Watt University in May, the Self-Transcendence 100km Race. Teams from the home Nations will be striving for the top spots buoyed no doubt by the recent good performances by William Sichel of Scotland and Tony Mangan of Ireland.
