What a weekend it was for UK ultra and endurance running! From the demanding trails of Exmoor to the relentless challenge of Backyard Ultras, June 21st and 22nd saw a host of remarkable achievements and hard-fought finishes across the country. Here is a brief look at the top finishers of some of the events from last weekend.
20/06/2025 The Longbridge 100 Backyard Ultra
The Longbridge Backyard Ultra saw Adrian Busolini as the last man standing with 23 laps. Matt Mulhern was the assist with 22 laps, and the furthest distance female was Zoe Salt with 21 laps. Full results.
21/06/2025 Three Shires Way Ultra
A 50-mile run through Bucks, Beds, and Northants, following the Three Shires Way. First man home was Charlie Cook in 7:01:39, and first woman was Oana Sposub in 10:57:05. Full results.
21/06/2025 Exmoor Perambulation
The Perambulation is described on its website as Exmoor National Park’s iconic traditional self-navigated circular long-distance walking event dating back over 725 years. This year’s 65th edition of the historic event was also open to runners, offering a 15/30-mile run across Exmoor. Adam Fieldhouse was first across the finish line in 3:53:27, and the first woman, Lorna Watts, finished in 5:55:59. Full results.
21/06/2025 Race to the King – Coastal/Castle 49/52/100km
The 100k course consists of two 50km loops which start and finish at West Dean Gardens, Chichester: a flat and fast Coastal loop around Chichester Harbour, followed by the Castle loop along the South Downs. The women’s race was won by Linda Goodchild, who led the women from the start, finishing strongly in 10:43:50. Sergio Torija, who was in 61st place overall at the 27km point, eventually finished in 9:45:50, twenty-five minutes ahead of second place finisher, Robert Burbridge. 269 starters, 233 finishers. 21/06/2025 Jurassic Extinction 105m Ultra 100km/105m
The Jurassic Coast is a World Heritage site that spans from Old Harry Rocks, near Studland, to Orcombe Point at Exmouth. Climb South West, the event organisers, have a handful of race distances including 50 km from Lyme Regis to Exmouth, 100 km from Weymouth to Exmouth, and the 105-mile Jurassic Extinction from Poole to Exmouth. Justin Montague finished in 22:30, over three hours ahead of second-placed Colin Clarke.
First among the women, and fifth overall, was Michelle Claydon, who completed the distance in 27:41:57. Second was Joanna Morrissey in 33:39:07, and third was Melissa Montague in 35:28:21. Full results.
21/06/2025 39th West Highland Way Race 153km
A 92-mile race from Milngavie in the northern fringes of Glasgow to Fort William along the ancient West Highland Way. One of the few races in the UK to require a crew to look after a runner, the WHW passes through some remote areas before dropping down past the foot of Ben Nevis. This year saw Gus Irvine take the win in 15:08:34 ahead of Kyle Wilson, who took second place with 17:07:17 and John O’Donnell was third in 18:03:21. The women’s race was won by Rebecca Hormann in 19:01:30. Roberta Fletcher was second in 21:21:54 and third was Alison McGill finishing in 21:59:04 Full results.
21/06/2025 Epona 100 100m
The Epona 100 takes runners through sections of the Beacons Way, Offa’s Dyke, and Cambrian Way, traversing mountains, valleys, starting and finishing in Abergavenny. First lady was Sonia Williams in 26:27:59 and first man home was Nathan Hutton in 23:07:29. 125 starters, 88 finishers. Full results
21/06/2025 Ultra Wales 50 50m
Men’s winner Sam Humphrey set a new course record at GB Ultras Ultra Wales event by just under 5 minutes with a time of 9:32:41. Emily Lydon, in her ultrarunning debut, finished in 12:49:06 to take the women’s win. Full results.
21/06/2025 The Breakheart Backyard Ultra
Located in the Breakheart Quarry in Dursley, Gloucestershire, this Backyard Ultra is organised by Paul Breen, the man behind Gert Lush Events. The last man standing was Robert Mallett with 26 yards, and Martin Thomson was the assist. 75 starters. Full results.
21/06/2025 Minotaur/Hydra/Centaur Ultras 50/75/100m
Taking place at the Denbies Wine Estate, Dorking, Surrey on a one-mile loop, as part of the Denbies Festival of Running 2025 and spread over the weekend. The 100-miler saw Alex Marshall take the outright win in 18:40:06, and first man was James Bennett in 22:52:51. Full results.
21/06/2025 NoMad 50km Ultra 50k/50m
The NoMad50 mile Ultra mainly follows the Derby Nomad trail around Derbyshire, starting and finishing in Breaston. Wade Fodden was first man in 7:49:58, and first woman was Sarah Pollicott in 11:33:10. Full results.
21/06/2025 14 Peaks Ultra 33m
Starting at Aber Falls Distillery on the North Wales coast, the route takes in 14 of the Welsh 3000ft peaks, in a North-South traverse of 55km & 3,900m+ taking in the Carneddau, Glyderau, and Yr Wyddfa massifs. Lizzie Richardson was first woman in 8:12:15, and Hugh Chatfield was first man in 6:39:56. Full results.
21/06/2025 Beyond London 25/55km
A point-to-point ultra in London starting in Woolwich and finishing in Central Richmond. The men’s event was won by Jonah Lytle in 4:14:24, and the women’s winner was Debbie Hughes in 5:50:54. Full results.
21/06/2025 Saltire 6/12/24 hour
The event takes place in Royal Deeside, Scotland, on a multi-terrain trail beside Kerloch Hill and Fetteresso Forest. Runners can choose between 6-hour solo or 12/24-hour options, or in relay style as teams of 3-8. Top runners were John Anderson (29 laps, 121 miles) and Kerry Gallagher (24.2 laps, 101 miles). 21/06/2025 Two Roses Ultras 100k 50k/100km
She Strides Events, formerly known as Atalanta Races, is the race organiser – a mother/daughter team hosting events which include the Calderdale Way Ultra.
The 100k starts from Wadsworth Community Centre in Old Town, Hebden Bridge, and finishes at the Hebden Bridge Bowling Club. Runners have 24 hours to complete the course. Rebecca Dyke was first home in 7:47:50, and first man was Dario Castanga in 08:00:20.Full results..
22/06/2025 Scilly 60 60km
Racers cover 60km over 5 islands, running every inch of coast path on every inhabited island making up the Isles of Scilly Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. First woman home was Louise Mitchell in 5:24:13. First man was James Whetman in 4:42:33. Full results.
14/06/2025 The Montane Spine
The Montane Summer Spine Race is a non-stop, 268-mile endurance race along the Pennine Way in the UK. The race starts in Edale, Derbyshire, and finishes in Kirk Yetholm, on the Scottish Borders, with a time limit of 156 hours. The race drew to a close on June 21st with the final athlete, Gillian McGale, arriving at The Border Hotel in Kirk Yetholm. The six races took in various distances along the 268 mile Pennine Way that reaches Kirk Yetholm.
