The 2025 UTMB World Series kicked off with a thrilling new ultrarunning event: the Arc of Attrition by UTMB. Held from January 24-26, Cornwall’s well-established race which showcases the rugged beauty of the Southwest Coast Path saw 1180 runners tackled three distances: the Arc 100 (100 miles), Arc 50 (100k), and Arc 25 (50k), experiencing the raw splendor and technical challenges of this iconic trail.
The event attracted top-tier athletes and saw course records fall. Tom Evans (GBR) (UTMB Index 914) and Eleanor Davis (GBR)(UTMB Index 745) dominated the Arc 50 with impressive times of 6:54:40 and 7:55:48, respectively.
The shorter Arc 25 proved to be a fast and furious affair, with runners finishing much earlier than anticipated. Kristian Jones (GBR)(UTMB Index 887) blazed through the course in 2:41:25, taking the men’s title, while Sara Alonso (ESP)(UTMB Index 782) won the women’s race in a remarkable 3:04:55.
In the grueling Arc 100, Lewis Ryan (UTMB Index 772), the 2024 Arc 50 champion, stepped up to win in a dominant 19:22:35. Noor Van Der Veen (NLD)(UTMB Index 644) also delivered a stellar performance, taking the women’s victory in 22:30:44.
