The highly anticipated Race to the King 2025 is set to begin tomorrow, Friday, June 20th, 2025, as hundreds of determined runners embark on an epic ultramarathon challenge across the stunning South Downs. This guide provides an overview of the event, its courses, and where to find live tracking updates once they are released.

Organised by Threshold Sports as part of their Threshold Trail Series, Race to the King promises a test of grit, spirit, and strategy as participants navigate ancient paths, rolling hills, and breathtaking coastal views from West Dean Gardens near Chichester.

The Challenge: Race to the King 2025 Distances

Participants will be tackling one of the UK’s iconic ultra courses, with multiple options to suit different levels of challenge:

  • 100km Non-Stop: A monumental challenge combining two 50km loops for a total of 102.7km.
  • 50km Coastal Loop: A flatter, faster route around Chichester Harbour.
  • 50km Castle Loop: A more undulating and challenging loop past Arundel Castle and along sections of the South Downs Way.
  • Monarch’s Loop 30k: A shorter, but still significant, challenge added for those seeking a taste of the course.

Every runner will benefit from the renowned Threshold Trail Series support, including fully signposted routes, well-stocked pit stops, medical assistance, and the incredible atmosphere of fellow participants and supporters. Threshold Trail Series also actively promotes inclusivity through initiatives like its Ultra 50:50, which works with SheRACES and grassroots running groups to address barriers for women in ultrarunning and encourage broader participation.
