The 9th TRA Ridgeway Challenge 2012 took place over the Bank Holiday weekend on the 25th-26th of August. This event was the 2012 Long distance UK Trail Running Championships.
The course is an 85 mile race along a 5000 year old trackway through the Chiltern Hills including well known landmarks such as Grim’s Ditch, Barbury Castle and Liddington Castle (hill forts) en route.The course has 9,000 feet of ascent and started at Ivinghoe Beacon near Leighton Buzzard in Buckinghamshire. The finish was at Avebury Stone Circle in Wiltshire. There were two start times: 10:00 for those expecting to take more than 24 hours and 1200 for those expecting to finish quicker.
There were 114 starters and 76 finishers. The race was won by Winchester & District AC members Robin Houghton and Sandra Bowers.
